What are the net benefits?

There are simultaneously a million for the neg as well as a million arguments for the aff about why the CP links to the NB.

Before I go farther – there is a generic NB section which is important. It is, however, very important that you review the sections of the files that apply to specific affs within the starter packet. For example, against the AI copyright licensing aff there are specific link turns to the first advantage that won’t be covered in the generic net benefit section.

For internal stuff: I have two versions of the 1NC. The first has a developing economies net benefit. There are two internal links to developing economies: First, a sui generis system will get modeled by developing nations that allow local innovation to take off yada yada. Second, even if it’s not modeled, sui generis gives a better access point to inventors in developing economies to get protection in the United States and therefore can open markets, prevent knockoffs, etc.

I also have an innovation version. The idea is that patents/copyright/trademarks are very rigid and haven’t evolved with x industry and therefore hamper innovation. There is also an internal link that lower standards of originality etc. in some sectors which provide a bridge to larger innovations.

For external stuff: I have cards about politics, court clog, and patent bad type turns being net benefits in the “net benefits” section of the file. For politics, the basic idea is that industries can weigh in on legislation and custom tailor it to their needs which solves the need to backlash. Hint for the aff: there is a way you can use these politics cards to your benefit. For court clog type arguments, the idea is simply that a) sui generis can mostly be done legislatively/external to the traditional patent etc court system but also b) that because sui generis tends to be way narrower than traditional IP protections, not as many suits will be brought.

For all of the net benefits: You need to spend some time thinking about and writing out “perm do both links to the net benefit” items.
