Momentum will pick up during summer
Barnett, 6/7/2024 (June 7, 2024, Brent Barnett, “GRASSLEY DOESN’T EXPECT FARM BILL MOVEMENT IN JUNE,” https://www.brownfieldagnews.com/news/grassley-doesnt-expect-farm-bill-movement-in-june/, JMP))
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says movement on the Senate’s version of the farm bill isn’t likely to happen this month.
“We’ve got a couple of no-vote Mondays,” he said. “We’ve got a Juneteenth day off, and then we have the last week of June off. So I don’t think there’s enough days even if there’s an agreement made today.”
During a press call with farm reporters, the Iowa Republican said he has some optimism that momentum will pick up later this summer.
“I’ve had good conversation with Senator (Debbie) Stabenow,” he said. “She discussed her bill more than just the framework with me, and I think she’s making a good faith effort to move ahead.”
The current extension of the 2018 Farm Bill expires at the end of September.
