Destroys the biosphere

The result is the world that we are living in: We live in unprecedented comfort, but we are borrowing much of that comfort from the future. Humanity has crossed six out of nine planetary boundaries. To name a few, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are higher than they have ever been in the known history of the planet, the biosphere is being disrupted by genetic and functional variants, and land-system changes are threatening entire ecosystems. Humanity is close to crossing the seventh boundary, too, by rendering the oceans too acidic for healthy marine life.
Technology has helped use resources to build valuable goods, but we have not been able to replace and restore these resources as quickly as we produce goods. Our consumption of goods also leads to pollution in many forms, further degrading natural resources that we all depend on.
In order to keep our current living standards, while also increasing those of people who have not yet reached them, we must try a different approach. Extracting resources and producing goods quicker will be of limited benefit as we cross even more planetary boundaries and jeopardize the resources we all depend on.
